Sustainable Cooling Strategies for Data Centres
Data centre cooling systems have been through a major transformation
in recent years as a result of increased load densities and the growing awareness of sustainable design practices for building systems.
This presentation will outline the current primary cooling options and air distribution strategies where I will compare the energy efficiencies, consider life cycle costs and look at the advantages and disadvantages of each option. The relevance of Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) and The Green Grid in the design of modern data centres will also be discussed.

Connecting the Business Service View with the IT Engineering View
Kiwibank have in the last year developed a graphical monitoring platform based upon Microsoft's System Center Operations Manager platform that provides connectivity between the business service view and the detailed engineering view. Bohdan Szymanik will describe how this gives the company a dramatically improved view into systems management and how it can be used in combination with the corporate social computing platform to support better decision making within the IT environment.

Are you the Weakest Link?
A discussion centred around the latest buzz words – “resilience” and “Supply Chain”.Where does your organisation position itself?
As a link in a Supply Chain or as a resilient predator at the top of the food chain. “Continuity” is maturing around the world into a Management discipline that enhances an organisation’s operational resilience by examining the threats and benefits within its supply chain.

BICSI 002, Data Center Design Standard and Recommended Practices
With the push for greater capacity, increased efficiency and higher levels of utilization, data centres have become more complex to design and bring on-line. As a result, today’s data centre designer is often required to have knowledge in many systems - mechanical, electrical and telecommunications systems—areas not typically found in the same reference manuals or standards.

Data Centre Cooling Strategies - Any Environment, Any Density
Kevin Hughes, APC's Advocate and Cooling Product Manager for APJ, will take you through a complete range of cooling solutions. From Room to Row to Over Aisle, hear first hand which solution best applies to your application. Doing more with less is still a critical concern to those in Data Centre management. This session will also show how the right cooling solutions contribute to greater energy efficiencies, lower cost of ownership and an improvement in PUE.

Highly Efficient Data Centre Cooling by means of Dynamic Free Cooling
The decision to green the data centre is no longer a question of “if”, but “when”. With significant energy efficiency gains possible using ambient air free-cooling, the challenge will be to select the optimum technology to meet initial capital cost constraints whilst maximizing long term operational benefits. Stulz will present a comparative analysis of the various free-cooling techniques currently available.

A Strategic Approach to Power Monitoring: An Extra Umbrella of Protection for your IT Infrastructure
The drive for increased energy efficiencies, the constant moves additions and changes to IT equipment, along with disparate IT and facility monitoring and organisational structures can reduce the data centre’s power infrastructure efficiency and reliability.

The Next Generation ICT Infrastructure
Next Generation Solutions for your evolving networks
While rapid advances in technology have given enterprises more computer firepower, they have also resulted in data centers that are resource-hungry, more complex and more expensive to manage. How can today’s complex data centers be made easier to operate? How can IT executives lower their OPEX? How can these issues be addressed without diluting critical levels of availability? These are the pressing issues addressed by Emerson Network Power in its breakout session, "Efficiency Without Compromise."

Build Once, Operate Constantly
Does resilience = security? A data centre is designed for continuity of service and this requires a huge investment. The cost multiplies dramatically as the level of resilience is increased but the main cause of unplanned downtime is not “equipment” but “people”. The level of investment in “the human factor” is typically not given the priority it deserves. Having the right people, good systems and proven processes in place can greatly reduce or eliminate unplanned outages.
